I am going to make this thread my Hybridizing Journal. I have been keeping fish for 10 years now. I have had many different species of fish. I started with mostly oddballs, but here as of late my tastes have changed and I have mostly cichlids.
My breeding pool list of fish:
2 Oscars 10"+ 1M 1F
1 Jaguar 9" F
1 Trimaculatus 8" M
1 Green Terror 8" M
1 Red Parrot 5" F
1 Red Devil 3" M
1 Electric Blue Jack Dempsey 5" M
1 F Jack 4" w/ EBJD
2 Jack Dempsey 4" M
2 Texas Cichlids 1M 1F 3'
2 Black Convicts 5"M 4"F Pair
I have other fish too:4 africans 3", 3 severums green and gold 2", angels 4", pike 8", wolf fish 8", black rhom 8", 2 red bellies 6", 3 red hooks 7", tinfoil barb 8", black con 3", firemouth 3", 13 plecos 1 for each tank.
My tanks
125, 55 x2, 40B x3, 30 x3, 29, 20H x2, 20L
I have lost a few fish in the past couple weeks, due to me trying to cross breed and having them kill each other. I had my 7" red terror kill 2 female trimacs 4" and 5"and a 6" F jaguar. traded the terror off for an angel. My trimac M killed one of my female parrots, he bit a hole in her stomach right by her vent. She was in the process of laying eggs. I have found it is better idea to let the female establish herself in the tank first then introduce the male when she is ready to breed.
When I am preparing my fish to breed I feed them a variety of foods 3-5 times daily. I feed Hikari Massivore Delite, Jumbo Min, Krill. I also make my own fish food. I blend together and freeze shrimp(shell on), catfish(locally caught and frozen), I make carrot juice and add the pulp and juice, garlic juice(natural antibiotic and all around good plant, I put it in everything), I also add cyclopeeze and spriulene algae(more color enhancing), and gelatin.
I also do frequent water changes anywhere from 25 to 40%. I also refill my tanks with cold water, it helps stimulate the fish into spawning like a spring rain. I keep my lights on 10-12 hours a day.
I think that is enough for my first post/entry.
