i have a 55 gal tank with 5 very young marco rosenbergi prawns and 4 snails i do not know there name well i noticed after i got some drift wood from a lfs i have hydras all over how can i get rid of these guys with out trying to catch and move my prawns ? in time will the snaills do the job ? or should i maybe get big apple snails ? the prawns look and act like thee not even there thx for any help i was thinking if i cleans the glass and such whould a uv sterlizer help or maybe take the wood out and boil it in hot water ? :WHOA: :screwy: :swear:     :werd: :feedback:

Snails won't do it, You can get rid of most of them by wiping down the glass with a clean cloth and dipping the driftwood into hydrogen peroxide for a couple minutes then rinsing it off with fresh water before replacing it in the tank. Mollies will also eat hydras if the M. rosenbergi are large enough to not be eaten, the shrimp will evetually eat the mollies though.

ok i will do the rosenbergi's are about the size of my thumb how many mollies do u think i should get its a 55 gal long tank maybe 5 10 ? thx again for any help :screwy:

If you do the wipe down a couple times and peroxide the wood or even just pull it out and pour boiling water over it, then 5-6 should do it.

OOPS, I seem to have actually answered in your post, lol. Any way, once you reduce the # a bit 5-6 should be enough.

ok thank u will do i had a black molly once she was a a***** they seem to be a little *****y bossy also maybe they will stop after they meet the prawns

i bought 10 marbled mollies shall that do that the trick i hope any ideas ? damm hydras i really do not want to take everything out since trying to catch the prawns they have warp reverse gear and its almost impossiable to catch them . i hate the hydras perhaps wipe the glass down and get a uv sterlizer ? and whould a uv sterlizer kill hydra's anyway ? :screwy:

I have never used a uv. just using a clean cloth, (you can rinse it it tap water them microwave it for a couple minutes instead of using detergeant,) every morning for a while will get most of them, sterilizing the driftwood will also help and get rid of one source of food for the hydras. becareful not to overfeed the shrimp as hydras can eat granulated and flake food. without food most of the hydras will starve. It might take a couple weeks but you should be able to control the problem.
This is one reason to consider pretreating any new driftwood in the future.

ok man the little asses breed fast hydra city :swear:

damm grey hydra man they brred fast

you may have to do a tank breakdown to get them all out
