Good for you.,did you get it from ThatPetPlace?

Yes, I got him @ That Fish/Pet Place for $16.99 with a 30% off coupon. Actually I got all my 100+ fish there. Almost all my Characins were mis-labelled @ the store. Thanks to MFK - I do know what I own.

IMO no

There's allmost allways a reason. Its usually stress from tank mates. All these wild caught hydrolycus species are very fragile in aquaria when young.

Most people try to put them with cichlids or other large toothy predators and they just cant take it as juvies.

It's a 150 gal 72x18x28 - Filtration Rena XP3(1 bay 20+30dpi pads, the rest stuffed with ceramic bio-rings and 1 polishing pad) and a Marineland 90 custom (2 polishing pads + ceramic bio-rings w/ aeration form a bubble wand via whisper 100 air pump)
Also have an aquaclear 30 jet pump for current. The wand in the tank is more for relief as without splitting the air the water bubbled outta the filter. 50% weekly water changes like clock work.

Don't get me wrong - That Pet has a knowledgable staff however they are a lil' under expeirenced in the Characin department. Also the "mislabelling" could come from the dealer as fish sub species aren't always easily ID'ed as very small juvies.

From what I have come to understand little is known about the Scomberoides spieces period both in the wild as in never filmed or in captivity where they rarely seem to make it to sub adults. They are often mistakenly compared to the Aramatus which can get up to 4 ft but with no documented 4ft Scombs who really knows. On this site it's been speculated that Scombs may be short lived - may only reach 12" in length - or their needs change ie; diet, range, spawning demand, water temp, PH or KH - no one as of yet really knows why 12" or 12 months sudden death. I've had several in the past living in confined quaters eating cyprinide as a staple and none made it 1 yr or over 7". I've tried weening several times with zero success, the fish would starve to death. So this time I thought I'd switch it up - Mollies as a food source, current, over filtration, larger tank space @ 2-3" he was all but alone in a 75 gal -Top Predator zero competion. He moved into the 150 after 6 mo @4-5" so growth has been quite steady. If he continues to steadily grow I have NO issues moving him into 235 gal. Over the course of the year I've slowly added tankmates as of now theres no-vacancy as far as i'm concerned, so long as the Scomb continues to eat regularly he will be the top predator in any tank. This guy is very healthy - he even survived a 3 day poweroutage in March that had me changing water constantly for 3 daze to keep all my 11 tanks alive. I lost 2 fish outta over 100.

Hybrid- 3 years is outstandingly remarkable. I wish you another 10 and hope that mine will thrieve as long as yours have.
