I need some good advise from those who have kept (or are keeping) a Hydrocynus Vittatus (African Tiger Fish), not the Goliath. I am so tempted to purchase one 12" to add to my collection. Does it coexist nicely with a few cichla temensis of about the same size? Or for that matter, any other fish of the same size?

Mine has a bad habit of biting anything that moves too quickly in his general area and then figuring out what it was later. They are very unpredictable fish with giant teeth. I myself would not put mine with anything I looked forward to seeing alive and well tomorrow

Here is what happened to my Iridescent shark dither when he swam too fast by the ATF he is missing the top of his tail and if you enlarge the picture you can actually see a bite mark under his dorsal fin.

I do highly recommend this fish nothing like them on the planet

Hi, thanks for your input. I value it. So the Tiger Fish is not a good community dweller. I certainly don't want to see my temensis get chewed up! Hope your Iridescent Shark has learnt its lesson.

he has healed up very well luckily he must not have a very good flavor

Any time, any other questions let me know. I by no means to be an expert on ATF but will give you my best educated opinion :)

Yeah, he probably didn't taste very nice! LOL

You are expert enough for me, thanks again.

It depends on the VATF. I've had 12 discus w/my 16" VATF for a couple months (smallest was 2" discus) with no bites or fatalities. On the other hand he did slaughter a 9" Orino.
Also I seen a YouTube Vid here that Li posted a while ago of a VATF w/Cichla. Tank was huge though

I would get it n let him tell you who he likes to play with :D

My vittatus Godric plays nice now. Although he did kill a larger vittatus when Godric was 3.5 inches. Now he is pushing 10" and lives with poly's, datnoids, cats, archers, b parrots, pleco, and an aro just fine. He chases the archers once in awhile but no aggression atm.

Been living in peace for about 11 monthish now.

Throw in some decorations for the Cichla to hide, tiger Won't bother if they are hiding. Got 6 3"-5" Orinos with my 13" Vatf, Usually just beefs with my Dorado.
