Funny, I was gonna post a lil' update. Thanks for reminding me 
They're doing even better. Eating earthworm really well, not shy now - they come to the front of the tank at food time etc. Putting on a little weight in the tail too. So far refusing shrimp but I've only been trying it for a few days and I'm not gonna starve 'em at this point.

I believe I've just won the battle to get my Hystrix on shrimp. It was a combination of a couple things this time: soaking the shrimp in chopped earthworm was enough to get both interested. The female finally got to the point where she'd eat a few small pieces then stop and leave the rest so I switched to feeding a little shrimp first then coming back with earthworm later.The male was bizarre - he'd take a piece of shrimp into his mouth, chew it around for literally a minute or so then spit out the 'stringy' bits
and then he'd ignore any other pieces too.Took a couple weeks but for the last three days they've been working up to really pounding their shrimp
