Damn they're slow grower..

I got a pair back in december at around 3" or so and I don't think they have grown at all...Their tail is fat, back hump is thicker but I don't think they've grown that much at all

They eat every day (shrimp, nightcrawlers), they're in a 75 gallon growout with drip system running 7 days a week. Each of them can take down half of shrimp or a full nightcrawler daily.

Any ideas on ideal growth rate ? I am trying to improve a bit..

WELL.......

i got my first Male November 08. @ 3" he is now 7" :) --eats shrimp, smelt, and occasional worms, and will nibble pellets

i got my next female January 09 @ 3.5" she is now 8.25" -- eats pellets mostly

i got my next female March or April 09 @ 5.5" she is now 10.5" -- eats mostly pellets
she is very thick, almost as thick as my 18" motoro!!

I really think pellets speed up there growth a little. I think it is because they can woof down so much once they learn how to eat them.

they are so cool since they stay small.

they seem to mature at about 2 years old. my male is rolled and he is only 7"

2" a year is about what i get. but i think it will slow down even more at 8-10"

they are slow growers, but that is what is cool about them.. 18-24" wide tank and they are good to go!

i think spotfin's are growing very slow too. he has had his since i first got mine and i think his are around the 7" mark.

I kept one of the hystrix for my brother back when I brought all of them in. His is now maybe 5" to 5.5". Is this about the size of yours?

They can go from 9 cm to 25 cm in 20 months.

Pretty much the same deal with scobinas. :)

they "CAN" but most DON'T :)

Well mine did. ;)

Clean water and good feeding and they will be able to breed at the age of 18-20 months! :)

But this only applys to CB animals!

was this the male or female that reached that size in 20 months?

i am thinking my male at a little over 2 years old roughly has stopped growing already. I dont see him ever breaking 10"
