that was the thing with my friends hystrix it was in my pond for a few months with my mature female Motoro.

AQUAMAN! Where are you for this one?

My female is 12 maybe 13 inches disc,shes delivered 3 lots of pups so far,the male however is only 8.5 inches,the pair are approx 12 years old.
I would expect a female hystrix to be 3 years old with a disc size of at least 10 inches to reproduce,they dont breed as readily as Motoros thats for sure.

Good info! Do you remember her approximate size and age when she had her first litter?

To be honest im sure they would have bred at a much younger age than when i bred them,they were my first rays second time around if that makes sense,i had them mixed in with all types of fish,more of a community situation really,i wasnt feeding heavily or changing water as regularly as i do now.Since keeping them on their own in what can only be considered as a minimum sized aquarium(6x2x2) they have bred repeatedly,though they are having a natural rest period just now.
I would say they were the size they are now when they bred,they have had all their pups in the last 2 years.
