In God We Trust
I have 3 hystrix and have had one for about 7 months. was bought at about 3.5". He is only about 5.5" now.
growth rates on the others seem about this slow too if not slower.

Everybody else who has one have they noticed this slow of growth rate? It seems very very slow. .25" a month.

What are you seeing with your HYSTRIX? Post a before and after if you have it.

Very Very slow. I try frozen krille, and lots of live blackworms. Biggest one about 7 or so inches. Most still 5 or so inch.

is that one of the first ones the 3-4"ers?

my biggest is about 7-8" and it was about 6" when i got her. mine eat shrimp some smelt and earthworms.

Mine are slow growers as well.

1/4"-1/2" is what ive been told as normal.. put them on pellets that should speed up the process a little

hystrix are slower grows than pretty much any other FW ray. I am also think it will vary from hystrix ray to hystrix ray. How about you post some pics....

I have 5 hystrix here which I bought when they were about a month old.

The were born the 30th March 2008 and my largest one a male is larger than 8" I believe and the rest about or larger than 7". Am not sure as I didn't measure them in more than half a year.

Half a year back the average one was 6" while the male was 7" then. I believe I posted some pictures of them while I measured them. I'll see if I can measure them again in the coming days. We should have a nice comparison then.

my larger one was about 6.5" and is close to 8" also. So that gives me an idea on the age. 1 - 1-1/2 years old.

About what age and size are they breeding at 2 - 2-1/2 years old and 9-10"??

NIC: they are the hardest ray i have had with trying to break to eat pellets.
