Hello everyone,

I used to have 5 Congo Tetras. 1 died of and unknown reason a few days after introduction. About 3 months later, I got 5 more. I added them, and 4 of them were beaten by the other Congo’s. I got one more, and it was beaten to death. Now I have 6. One died of jumping out. One died when I let someone take care of my fish. Now I have 4. One jumped out again. I am not here to discuss how they died. This was all over a 7-8 month period. So now I am left with 3. They are in a 55 with 1 Delhezi Bichir, and 2 Corydoras. I am wondering if I should surrender them. I am not buying anymore, because I have spent well over $150 on them, and I am not buying more. Do I rehome?

They all stick together. The smallest one is the boss. They are just like cichlids - from what I have heard. They bop each other on the head every so often. They are territorial of one plant. The little one likes the sponge filter, etc. they seem to be fine, but they are supposed to be In groups of Atleast 6. They seem to be attempting to be schooling with the Corys.

If the first train leaves the station going west at 60mph, and the second train leaves the station going east at 50mph...:uhoh::hypnotize

You now have 3 fish that you are into for more than $50 each. Assuming you can find someone who wants the only three survivors of the Thunderdome, you will have nothing to show for your money at all and the new owner will have three PTSD-afflicted fish. Unless you are expecting more disasters in their future, you have nothing to lose by giving those fish a chance to live out their lives in your tank.

jjohnwm jjohnwm , I have made some mistakes, but I am not someone who puts goldfish in a Gatorade bottle or something like that. I know what fish need, I know more than the normal newbie fish keeper do. I am just going to give them away - assuming everyone agrees. I am not a baby, you know.

Mistakes and losses are part of learning experience. I'm sorry this happened to you congos are cool in a school. It does hurt in our wallets when it happens. Remember you are working with living creatures it's part of it. Not my favorite part of the gamble but if they're jumping out, something in the tank is causing it.

Best of luck with your decision
