That's true but the young one is getting help financially from parents to support the hobby so I feel his concern.
I am ok financially, but based on Congo Tetras in the past, they aren't the best for me. And 60 bucks for 4 3 inch congos is not very good for me. I didn't mean to complain about the pricing, sorry. And I am not financially reliant on my parents. I have paid for everything so far. I just have a limited amount of money.

very true . people my age generally tend to spend the pocket money on outings , partying , relationship etc , and here i m trying to find out how many months worth of pocket money is to be saved to buy that one particular fish , and if they die its sad. tho I always end up buying the fish at that moment and end up paying the lfs monthly .

Beautifully said. This is exactly what I feel. I spend money on my girlfriend, takeout, presents, etc. And just the tiny sliver of money left on the pie chart is for the hobby. So it sucks when I spend a ton on some really cool fish, but then they die, and then more die. So now what am I to do? I feel I should rehome, and just pick a different fish and go from there.

I am not here to discuss how they died.

7-8 months is a relatively short space of time to be having all those setbacks. Quite costly setbacks too! The question i'd be asking myself, to help me understand and improve on my fish keeping abilities is, "why has this happened?" and not "should I just offload the rest?" Especially taking into consideration that, unless you have a job, it was your parents who paid for these fish.

Multiple losses through fish jumping can be avoided. You simply address the lid issue the first time it happens. Putting new fish with already established fish of the same species can end bad, you upset the hierarchy, so they fight. And leaving fish with people who don't have a clue what they are doing whilst you're away is a recipe for disaster. If my math serves me correctly you've lost 8 congo tetras to my above mentioned setbacks.

So your comment of, "I am not here to discuss how they died" doesn't help you with your future fishkeeping one bit.

This post is to help you, I am not beating you up in any way shape or form. Sometimes we need to reflect on WHY things happen, not just move on and make the same mistakes.

That's good to know when I was your age I relied on my Mother until I talked myself into a under the table job in a Pet Department.

At this point it sounds like the best option is to cut your losses and rehome. The only thing worse than spending a lot of money to make a school and it whittling itself down is having to repeatedly do that (if that makes sense).
