I ABSOLUTELY HATE ACRYLIC!!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thanks for the replies guys. I had to vent this and if anyone knows of anyways to make them at least "better" without draining the tank its appreciated. Going to order from mightymagnets.com I think and try their kit

The same thing would have happened to a glass tank. If it makes you feel any better, it's easier to buff out scratches from acrylic than it is from glass. Sorry this happened to you.
Tip: I buy large packs of micro-fiber cleaning cloths at Sam's Club. I use them on my tanks to keep the glass clean. They're used once then, become house or car rags.

Check the DIY forum. One of our members did a photo journal step-by-step procedure of removing scratches and buffing out his monster acrylic tank.

i felt the same way when i first got my tank. I know how it feels. get a new tank and wanting to keep it nice and clean. then turn on the lights and bam.. wtf.. all them little scratches like paper cuts on your skin.

i truely dont think it is possible to keep an acrylic tank spotless w/o scratches knowing how easy they can get scratched. make matters worse.. a fish can also scratch the acrylic if they rub their nose against it. :irked:

think of it this way M; we don't  at the acrylic but what's inside. :naughty:

someone needs to invent a scratchless acrylic.. they will make millons. :D

Yes, I always put micro fiber cloths between the magnet and the glass. Never clean an acrylic without it.

The upside is, now is the best time to scratch your tank if you were going to. Just drain it and buff. It's not too hard. Consider it a lesson learned.

you can fix scratches so dont worry. its probably a good thing it happened, this way you will be more careful, and wont have this happened fully stocked.

ive only had one acrylic that was a small hex, but you need to be extra careful. i would clean it by hand with a cloth everyday to prevent algae.
