I ABSOLUTELY HATE ACRYLIC!!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've had to take scratches out of a large acrylic tank before without draining it. You use one of the scratch removal kits like the one form rainbow lifeguard. Grab a snorkel and a cheap mask. It can be a long process depending on the size of the scratch but it will come out. You won't need to do any curls wrist or bicep for a long time after.

Now if this where a glass tank you'd be screwed as you would have to use diamond paste for the final buff.

that stinks... this is the reason the bottom few inches of all my tanks never get cleaned...

ok so I spent the $$$ on a tenecor 750 show tank for the living room of my new house. Was going to stock it nicely and have it laid out very presentable when done. It is filled and running and the FIRST time I clean the front panel some sand must have got in the cleaning tool. I cleaned it with the lights very dim at night, looked fine. the next morning there are tons of scratches throughout the front panel of my new $5k tank. i cannot believe it scratched this bad and that easy. I don't know if I'm upset, pissed, ready to give up, or what but it is so discouraging....

Buddy, it is natural you're upset, but I wonder who a man can spent 5 thousand ($5k?) in an acrylic tank without knowing the basic cleaning procedures, moreover how is it possible the seller didn't warn you about this risk?????:wall::wall::wall::wall:

Acrylic is much better than glass regarding resistence to water pressure, on the other hand it gets scratched really easy, everybody knows that for the god sake.....it is a shame man, I am really sorry for what has happened to you.....

By the way, don't even try to polish the tank or any other procedure to get rid of the scratches for you just get things worst, talk to a professional first.

don't panic!!! get some novus #2 and a buffer machine with very soft cloth on it...
buff, buff and buff again, then use novus #1 with a very clean soft rag.(by hand)..
a little bit of work but it does come clear.......trust me...I did it and it worked fine.....

thanks for the replies guys. I had to vent this and if anyone knows of anyways to make them at least "better" without draining the tank its appreciated. Going to order from mightymagnets.com I think and try their kit

As I understand it, you have a filled tank with scratches on the INSIDE. There is a company that offers a product to remove scratches from the inside of filled aquariums...wish I could remember the name. My recollection is that it works similar to the magnetic algae removers. I believe you place an abrasive pad on the inside and move it around from the outside. So relax...you can probably fix this. Let me know if you need help researching this product.

Not really he would have to drain the tank to use Novus on the inside. I would at least.

This is exactly why I changed my mind about acrylic.
