btw paying for that imo is not really a gift. My dad is really hard to shop for but I get always manage to find something small. A gift card to go out to eat is always appreciated. I live my own too and I live check to check and I always find some amount even if its just $15-20 to get them something and I wouldn't dream of buying myself something instead. Thats terrible.

I do the same. I usually buy him something that'll make him laugh or is incredibly ridiculous.

All right, it's your decision. If you want to buy some clothes rather than a present, go ahead. And personally, it's not the part about buying the clothes that gets me. I don't care what you do, it's your life. But sometimes we have to think of others before ourselves, especially when those others brought us into the world.

I went to the mall today to pick out a birthday present for my dad and an hour and a half later, I have several new outfits for me and no more money left to get anything else. sorry dad, I will make you a card....

If my son did this? I would be disappointed in myself for not teaching him the value of family,friends and the joy of giving. Maybe you should buy your dad something extra special so he doesn't feel any disappointment in himself.
