I am cursed by fish fairy...

My condolences. Fishkeeping is a Science, but without knowing how the fish were kept before you got them it becomes an Art and this is where we learn from mistakes (not necessarily of our own making).

How are the fish your friend took? Did he get similar fish? In same bags or separate?

It's nothing to make you give up on the hobby, just a hard learning experience. And as I say, Education is expensive. So hopefully we won't let this experience go to waste.

Stan really sorry for your loss man. At least your lent is still alive and you ended up keeping the watermelon. Hopefully they will pull through. The fish were going into several tanks not all into the 240. There were at least 2 other tanks that the fish were split between I know for sure. No shipping delays for added stress or anything like that, we did airport to airport.

I got 2 of the atabapo's from that shipment and so far so good. I did notice the pike doing a little scraping within the first day so I dosed a normal amount of cupramine to combat whatever might be afflicting it. Ph around 6.5-6.8, temp 80, nitrites 0, nitrates low. The true test will be if they survive while I'm gone the next two weeks and the parentals are maintaining the tanks...

Sorry guys,...I have been having a little fish withdrawal..

The pikes were on the separate tank. I didn't want to put it in the grow out tank fearing it may eat the smaller fish.

In summary, all the fish that died (even the Lent) were on 2 different tanks.

None of them were fed anything during that week.

PH was around 7.0 and holding, Parameters were 0, 0, 20 Temp was at 80 degrees.

When I added the meds, I added an extra air pump on each as well as powerhead to increase dissolved oxygen. I used half dosage on all meds.

When I added the fish, I also added total of 3 sponge filters that were on my 240 to increase BB for the new bio load. Nonetheless, ammonia was always at 0, I checked them daily with AP test kit as well as Salifert.

Well after this ordeal, I shut both tanks down, clean and disinfect everything and started back up fresh. RIght now both tanks are cycling. I will eventually get more fish. Hopefully within a month or two..

Stan
