Can someone recommend a good algae killer? I used to use this stuff called "Algae destroyer" but can't find it anywhere.

Your water supplier may decide to add chloramine to your water at any time and, unlike chlorine, chloramine builds up in a aquarium and will continue to kill bacteria in your filter.

You can remove all the water, but the spores will still be in the filter media, and will reproduce. Considering the amount of algae you have based on your explanation, your lighting won't do anything if only left off for 5 days. Start with turning them off for 10-15 days. Once the water clears of algae, give it 2-3 days beyond that and the water should stay clear. If you have money to spend, a diatom filter will remove this algae without any problems.
