I am going away for 2 weeks. My 15 yo son will be feeding the fish.
(2 tanks-75g African Cichlid & 75g Geo Blood Parrot Tank) I am going to do a major water change and a slight cleaning on the filters. Is there any conditioner or anything else I should try? I am not feeding any lance fish while I am gone. just massivore delite...the 13" CK is gonna have to eat em and not the lance fish. I am leaving a ph number for a local MFK buddy that will come if there is an emergency.

Tell your 15 year old a water change is neccessary......If he cannot do it once a week(the water change), which I beleive he can, cool.........Remind him that over feeding is more dangerous than under feeding...........

good advice on the feeding thanks. first time ive gone away for so long...lil nervous.

I think every 4 days would be okay

and to make it even easier!!!!

put them in little prepared baggies so all he needs to do is open it it and :shoop: drop it in the tank. I f u want you can do this for all the 14 days or only a couple of days out of the time your away

Your fish will survive the ordeal. If I were you, I'd feed them daily until the day you leave, then tell your son to feed maybe just once a week, which should reduce your chance of a major overfeeding problem developing. Just fatten them up before you go. I've gone away for almost 2 weeks and fed plenty of food the week prior to my departure, then I allow them to fast for the duration of the time that I'm gone. They always do well. I've not lost a fish yet. If you don't want to allow your fish to fast for the 2 weeks, just make sure you give your son good feeding instructions. I would not worry about a water change. By asking him to perform a water change, think you're asking him to do too much and a problem might occur. Keep it simple and easy.

^That's what I would do.^

I would change at least half,or more of your water before you leave. Have him keep the feeding light while you are gone, then do another water change yourself when you return.

Be careful, my nephew fed my fish for me while i was away. I came home and there was 100 freeze dried shrimp laying on the bottom of the tank.

But then again, my nephew is a pansy and didn't want to touch the shrimp so he tilted the container over and accidentally spilled too many in there.

You should be good man 15 years old is pretty old for them to do exactly what you tell them
