Check the date on that thread about the red devils (it is way out of date), which by the way are a common food fish in their own home range and an invasive species in Florida.

It was not the date of the thread that mattered..it was my first time seeing it..it would not make any difference to me.. it was the fact that he was like a hero.. about it... please i know pacu are eaten in florida too... but this is MONSTER FISH "KEEPERS" not monsterfish eaters..

What you have to remember is everyone was raised different. Even people who fish as a sport vs. people who don't fish as a sport probably have different views on eating pet fish, not to mention different cultures, and just being brought up with different morals. Some people can seperate pet fish from food fish, some people see all fish as possible food fish.

Just my thoughts. Glad you stayed. MFK needs everyone.. I sure would like to know what part of administration keeps overstocked dirty tanks with barebottoms... shame shame everyone knows your name.. lol

No one even mods are perfect and although you might not agree with someones stock levels, tank decor or cleaning rituals just remember to be respectful. By all means speak your opinion but remember that ideals on what fishkeeping is all about varies. But tank decor, nor look of the water can tell you much about how healthy a fish is. Those things are for your enjoyment not a fish's. As far as overstocked/cramped we all have our ideals on what is and what isn't. It's all opinion.

I wouldn't leave over one thread or even a few you disagree with or dislike. One thread hardly means wide spread acceptance of eating one's own pet raised fish.
If there were multiple threads on an ongoing basis for instance about people eating their own pet fish...that would be another matter.
Furthermore that's a very old thread, not an issue that just came up.

Glad that you're staying, I don't think you should eat your pets either. But everyone is entitled to their opinion I guess. I usually choose to ignore the stuff I don't like.

i trie once or twice......its like a nicotene withdrawal......without the health affects ;)

Has someone locked that thread so that it dies? Geeez. I am brand new and originally from South Louisiana. And in South Louisiana we eat just about anything that moves...from turtle soup to catfish courtbouillon...but I'm not about to eat my electric blue catfish even after it killed my TSN. And I'm certainly not throwing my channel cat into the iron skillet...there is something jacked up about that.

Liz...you have been helpful to me...and I agree with you on that thread...glad to see you are staying.

Since Liz is staying, and we're all grateful, I think we can close this now.

Can't go without giving some background,
I remember that thread, He tried to sell those fish, he tried to give them away locally, he even offered to ship them to anyone who wanted them if they would pay shipping (NOT EVEN A PACKING FEE). He Then gave warning that if no one would take them he would eat them. No one took them.
He ate them.
He could have just chopped and discarded them.
He at least took some kind of responsibility for the fish he could no longer keep, that is more than many pacu and tsn or rwedtail cat keepers do.
I don't think it was a particularily couth thing to do but it was not my call, after all, I couldn't take them either.
All I am saying here is that there was more to the story.
