~ I don't mind the green algae on my plants and stump but I'm growing this dark brown algae on the glass and it drives me crazy...

In my experience the best way to deal with algae is to use basic lighting, I use two T8's. Limit the lighting period to 6 hours a day. Also regular water changes to keep nitrates low.
If you have a problem with black bush algae make sure you have good circulation in the tank. You can also use a double dose of a liquid carbon supplement like easy carbo. This will make black bush algae turn red and die.
