i am so pissed of

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Was the ray nice and healthy? Had it for a long time?
Did u measure pH before you did the waterchange? Could it be that it had dropped - and that this combined with a possible pH jump after the change killed it?

I doubt the water change itself had anything to do with it. Death always has a reason if you look deep enough into the situation.

umm sry i have bin busy but from what i believe he was stessed by the water change wich led to his death but it still doesnt make sence cause he ate almost 2 times as much food and was way happy after the water change but he was really skinny and i had only had him a couple months. he was a retic so it took me a while to get him eating

I would assume chloramine would kill all but maybe a weak ray could succumb more than others.

You need to do a complete work up of the water for Nitrite, Ammonia, nitrate, ph, hardness and maybe copper. Use brand new kits and not dip strips.

The water change may be throwing you off what happened. After all of you eat a curry for the first time in your life one day and die of a heart attack the next it doesn't have anything to do with the curry.

What type of ray, my guess is wild caught retic....?

I think he meant 'over feeding' as too much food for what his body could handle in the state it was in. Lots of food could mean a tear in the stomach or spiral valve as they stretched out. Could have also been a blockage, which would lead to issues.

ya i guess but ihave seen rays of that size eat alot more and i think it could have something to do with a parasite maybe cause he was eating well and not gaining weight or is that just a slow proccess

I expect it was skinny due to a parasite or bacteria, He just died close to the water change.

If you agree then you probably need to look at treating the others. I would be amazed if due to overfeeding in sheer swallowed volume but it could turn the water if too much.

Retics seem to often die all of a sudden of all the rays but this is probably linked to poor shipping conditions and their low price meaning they are kept by less experienced keepers / suppliers /shippers
