I am so so confused.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
1500 is well well out of my price. I have been planning one 300 for my first ray. Is that a fair est?

should pick up the hystrix from fishdog. Cant beat them for size and price, and they look good too!

Agreed. You know you're gonna be getting exactly what's advertised and it will be in MUCH better shape being with a hobbyist then a vendor/importer/wholesaler.

Plus the guy knows the shipping game. At this point it would be nothing shy of silly to NOT get it.

Captive bred ray that have been kept for a long time is the way to go. I'd buy Fishdog's hystrix..

The volume of that tank is perfect but I am not sure it is 100% fair to keep a 20 inch fish in a 30 inch wide tank, after keeping 12 inch rays in a 34 inch wide (front to back) tank for a year I do not feel this is big enough for such an active bottom dwelling fish....especially when they show breeding activity.

I am going to upgrade to a 48 inch front to back and still I feel these fish need more, after all in the wild they would have oodles more room.

They will live in much less but Would you think it fair to keep an owl in a cage barely big enough for them to spread their wings....I think we need to consider the same sort of argument.

If the tank is 30 and he is 20 his wings are spread. As far as space this is why I come here to ask for honest advice. If it is hard for them to turn around in a 30" then I would feel its unfair, if they can turn around easily then Its no different then any other monster we keep. I would like to have a 48" and if its truelly needed for the ray to be healthy then I will just wait, but if they can be healthy and move freely then I don't see why I couldn't do it.

Every fish is used to oddles of room in the wild. lets face it unless we are doing it big with a 50k gallon our tanks are nothing compared to the wild and in all fairness a 50k gallon tank compared to the wild is like comparing a 50k to a 55gallon.

I hav two 16 inch rays in a 30 wide and they hav plenty of room

Awesome thanks everyone. So now that I know I can get one I will start my research no way I will even think about ordering one until I know excatly what I need to do to keep them healthy. This is going to be an awesome tank I think it will be flush mounted in my dining room wall so where the table ends the bottom of the tank will start. I can see me self there hours after dinner is over.
