Id worry about the Wels outgrowing the RTC and gigas, also gigas live in cold water if you keep them in tropical conditions you'll increase the grow rate.

gigas live in cold water >???????? i thought they came from peru/the amazon ??? or did u mean the wels and ino it will about the wels ;)

If you make a pond which should be suitable for a wels in the next years, you should make it much bigger. 5 X 3 m should be absolute minimum and the deepths at least 1.2m or more. As I said, you can be lucky if your wels will grow to 1,5m end-size, and that´s already very big for a fish in a pond. You won´t also get a 3m arapaima at home.
Actually, if you look at confirmed records, the wels actually exceeds the arapaima in total length but not in weight. The largest wels was 2,78m and 144kg versus 2,63 and 185 for the record arapaima.

I reckon that a wels could eat a gigas, as wels have massive mouths and gigas are long and rather thin in comparision.

Yes, the wels has a big mouth, but it is actually not able to eat really big things, because its abdomen is very short compared to its body length. A pike can eat fish of more than half of its own length, but the wels can´t do this. Actually there are two known cases (one only some months ago) in which very big wels catfish close to 2m died because they tried to swallow footballs for children and suffocated because they were neither able to swallow it nor to vomit it out. The arapaima looks nat as massive than the wels, because it has not such a wide mouth and thick belly, but actually it is more massive than a wels of the same length.
