I asked AI to tell me what the best food is for mbunas

Every time we search online for anything, AI is the driving force behind the response, regardless of if it is a direct question or simple searching for a local taco joint.

I can relate more closely to those people you mentioned who will lose their jobs

Don't disagree. But, to provide a different perspective:

I used to work as an AI tech at a brain cancer center. The docs are just now starting to use AI to quickly detect if a patient has brain cancer based on a biopsy. What used to take about 30mins (human alone) can now be done in under 5 mins (combined Dr. with AI). This dramatically cuts down the length of a surgery, as the biopsy is taken in real-time during surgery, and answers need to comeback as fast as possible.

I was just a low-level tech who was hired to harness and set up the system. But, I am sure no one lost a job over this. And I am also certain that this type of technology will save lives once it is better understood by medical professionals. I guess my point is: there will be some loss, but also much gain (and not just profits, but life and lifestyle). That is until Skynet takes over and we all die.

Well, let's return to your original comment in this thread. You asked an AI how best to feed your mbuna; I'm assuming you actually wrote out a question to that effect. The AI that produced an answer was required to read and correctly interpret the language and intent of the question, and then find the appropriate information and organize it into a meaningful response in that same language, allowing you to read and interpret it in turn.

If I were interested in the same thing, I would type out "mbuna diet" and would then be offered a list of reading material, from which I would pick and choose what I chose to read. Does that require the same level of sophistication from an AI as is required to produce the answer you received?

I'm not asking if the AI providing me with that list of reading material is as advanced as the one in the other example; I'm just stating that in my completely unqualified opinion it doesn't need to be...but it likely is, simply because "progress" demands that everything simply must be improved and made faster/shinier/smarter/better.

The AI writing out an actual sentence to answer your question...and the potentially dumber one providing me with a DIY kit to find the answer myself...are both finding the info on the internet, where they are subject to the same torrent of information/misinformation/disinformation that I am. The internet is awash in stupid people, no argument there...but now it's also loaded with AI's who seem hellbent on propagating their own brand of stupidity....and, on top of that, we have AI's who seem to have enough free time on their virtual hands that they can play at pretending to be humans.

An AI tech should believe that AI's are improving our lives; how could you sleep otherwise? Even I am willing to believe that someday they might; right now, though, they are just pissing me off.

Gotta go; I just read an authoritative-sounding article online which informed me that snakes require fruits and vegetables in addition to animal protein. They suggested bananas; I need to see what my bullsnake's reaction to that will be.

It's great to be alive in the age of information.
