They're actually unsexed. Most dominant becomes female and second most dominant becomes male

Correct, also refferd to as juvenile, they have no specific gender, though like I said it is possible for them to stay that way... but unlikely given the fact that they are different breeds.

Sizes would also most likely cause a problem between the fish as well. Don't they "challenge" each other to become the dominant one? So most likely right now the perculas are the sexed ones but once the maroons grow they'll be bigger and more able to challenge the perculas wiping out the existing female and male.

wait so if there diffrent species witch ones will become female and male? and i plan on upgrading later. idk if that would help. and the big maroon has hosted a hold in a rock already.

ok but like other post says he kept 6 percs do they have to be false or true? clowns are just my favorite sw fish! i have a 20gallon i might put the maroons in would that be ok?

From what I was told when I asked a saltwater forum, because I had the question of "can true and false percs pair up" and I was told no. It should be true and true or false and false, not true and false.

You would need bigger than a 20 gallon for any clown, especially a maroon. They can reach around 6 inches.

He said was 6 percs in a 1000gal reef, they could live their entire lives without ever seeing the other clowns lol. That size tank you can basically do what ever you want haha.

Was just going to say! lol In a 55 gallon, I wouldn't put more than one pair in, if you have a true pair. If you put a bunch of the same in, you can wait to see IF they pair up, and if they do, sell the others. You will have mayhem if you don't. Take time and enjoy it. It's really fun to watch two clowns figure out who they are. Mine paired up within 2 days and now host a rock.
