i was just wondering if youve ever owned a jardini or a lei sorry OPthis is off topic

:naughty: lol

to the op i wouldnt keep the silver with the jags... if there is know other way, get some egg crates at home depot so you can divide the tank.

just had a good look at him and he's about 4 and a half inch. wow thats a bit of a miscalculation, the baby jags are about an inch. at the moment (and i know things could change when they grow) the arowana swims around and the jags do what they always do...... hide. they are scared of their own shadow. everybody is eating well. arrow just had some muscle.

the fear is, are they more susceptible to poor water conditions?? thats the only thing i can think of why the other one died....... although no other fish were affected?!?!

also one eye was cloudy, but looked like it could have been burns, ie from the heater!?!? without an explaination i feel im cluching at straws.

who what or why it happened, i dont want anything like that happening again

It's possible and quite common for an aro (silvers especially) to jump and bang it's head hard enough on the hood to kill it. I think that's what happened to yours. The larger the tank the better obviously and if possible keep the water level a couple inches lower than you normally would. Your Silver will try to jump eventually, you want to try to minimize the injury.

Hi Mate,

I have to chime in about keeping juvenile arowanas in giant tanks. please let me reassure you that you do not have to do this. the smaller the tank the easier he will find his food, (i am still particularly worried about the jags). I have raised black and silver arowana babies in 14" tanks with about 8 - 10" of water in them, no worries, obviously no dead food is left in there, and i do a 25 - 50% water change once a week. i prefer small tanks till the fish is feeding regularly and established then move him up. All the big fish houses i have traded with keep juvies ( silver and black) this way. Asians are atleast 15cms when imported normally ( because of the chip) so those go in about a 3' x 2' x 2' minimum straight off. basically as long as you are feeding a varied diet, keeping him warm ( late 70s to mid 80s) and doing 25% - 50% water changes on a weekly / fortnightly basis, you should be fine. (still worried about the jags)

oh and leave a couple of inches of air between the waters surface and the cover glasses.

all the best mate,

Guy

we need pics! the jags worry me. i saw an aro 2 feet long in a store that had a 5 inch jag harrassing him. his fins were nipped up and he was missing scales. they separated them the next day.

jumping and killing itself as far fetched as it sounds might be the most possible / probable reason for death. although there is 4 inch between the water line and the hood. the jags are very small (right now) and i would had thought the arrow is considering them food, other than the jags nipping at the arowana.

i could leave the arowana in the small tank and move the jags to the 65g.............

any thoughts of them growing together and just being tolerant?? i've seen large cichlids and large arowanas together. why not in reverse?? mini monsters.

look at the size ratio. the jag harrassing the 2 footer was a little more than 1 fifth the size of the aro. yours are only 1 fourth the size.

why not in reverse? because aros are really delicate and vulnerable when they're small. they toughen up when they get about 7 inches.
