You could try feeding him after the lights are off. Also, I just started using Somethingfishys' idea of spearing all the food on a stainless steel BBQ skewer. The skewer acts as a weight. So far it's working well.

I saw this idea on TV at a public aquarium and it works. I use a piece of PVC pipe taller then my aquarium; place it in my tank at night. Slightly angled so there is a small gap at the bottom, place it close to where your GN resides. Wait a few minutes then plop a few frozen bloodworm cubes in the top. As they thaw, they sink to the bottom the smell lures the fish over and as their eating the activity draws more blood worms out. Great way to feed loaches as well any other bottom feeder. If you have moonlights, it is quite interesting to watch. I’ve also used it for chopped prawns, mussels, basically anything that sinks, but it’s the bloodworms that starts the activity.

We've used that technic at work many times over the years at work, especially when trying to feed catfish in our 700 gallon display. It usually works well, but sometimes the fish you're trying to avoid, get smart lol.

80 dollars sounds way too much. Sounds like an interesting way of feeding. Mind you, if its not being eaten by other fish, and its near enought the GN, it'll find it.
