I bought this Pleco for 100 USD. is it worth 100 bucks?

I’m not going to pretend to know what this pleco is but based on your pics it’s going to be difficult to tell as they are not the clearest pictures.

there are a lot of plecos that are black and yellow/golden.

Some of these plecos include butterfly pleco, false zebra pleco, leopard frogs, king tigers, and the list goes on.

you might get a better answer once you get a better picture, or you might have to wait for it to become an adult before knowing what it truly is as most plecos change patterns as they grow.

In regards to rareness and price that will vary…they might be rare in your area? There’s always going to be popular plecos that are rare in some locations and will command higher prices. If you paid $100 and feel it was a fair price for a pleco you like them I’d say it was worth it! There are many more plecos that will command higher than $100 price tags.

What was it sold as? There are several species with similar patterns, L52 is another. Most are not that expensive, unless you had it shipped. Some have been expensive at times due to availability, rumors that exports would stop, etc.

L173 are rare and they are expensive, they're similar in some ways to L46 zebras, not related as some believe, and pattern is different in adults, but they're usually more of a black and white pattern, maybe black and cream, at least from what I've seen.

Highly unlikely you got a 173 for $100. It also looks to yellow/golden to be 173.

I just called the shop and shown my receipt to them, they told me that it is L173. I got even more confused.

Here in Canada they are approximately $200-300 CAN.

I personally wouldn’t bc I don’t think they are l173’s. Ships are notorious for mis-identifying fish let alone a pleco fish
