I built a scary stand.

That's a nice looking stand you built there!

The manner in which you built your stand is nothing to worry about. You do not need to add any additional supports.

Your tank will be fine. You're just seeing the normal bounce from the floor.

looks good to me! i have mine sitting on a wooden gun box for now and that seems to be fine. however with mine it only 2 ft off the ground/

You have two problems.
1. you have no frame for the tank to sit on which is really causing that tank to shake build a frame colored in blue.

2. you have a box but you lack the structure to keep it stable adding the cross braces (Black) will be the quick fix but you should some kind of 2x at all your seams.

Hope this helps.

I'm sure you knew this, but please don't take this guys advice. Your stand looks good. I have a similar one thats 48" tall with a 50gl on top. Mine doesn't bounce because I have concrete floors. The water movement, as everyone else said, is from the joists moving - no big deal. If you're really concerned about it you could tether it to the wall, but I don't think that's necessary.

That is not a scary stand. As was mentioned before your build looks solid. I have put togetber many petsmart sold tank stands. most of them ARE scary. As was mentioned you can put some weight in the stand (sand bag, cinderblocks) tho dont feel it necessary, and you could try putting down a sheet of ply being that it is on carpet. It should be larger than the stand to be effective. Go from wall to 5-6" out from the front, and 8-12" out the sides. I did this for a couple stands and it helped the slight movement, as well as leveled the tank being it was on carpet.

That is a great looking stand, very professional looking. Dont screw it up with a bunch of 2x4's

Stories of other peoples' 6ft tall stands have given me a better perspective. Guess I was just being paranoid.

Next project: A SCARY CANOPY!!!
