I have probably had about 10 snails die over the last few months in both my 10 gallon tank and my 44 gallon pentagon tank. I just can't keep them alive and I have no idea why. Is there any advice that you can give me?

I am new to snails myself, and I know that my water is NOT right for them YET, but I have not had ONE die on me, so I'm curious what type they are, and what you feed them.

I have found that they eat A LOT. They are PIGS. I don't think many people realize this. Maybe this is the issue?

Mine are Mystery Snails and a few of the Columbian Ramshorns.

(My water isn't right because I have not put crushed coral in yet)

They do.... and they need calcium.

Ive been breeding purple briggs for awhile now and heres a few thingsIve learned

Hard slightly alkaline water is best they need the minerals to form good shells. You can use a reef supplement like kent calcium or similar esp when theyre growing.
The eat alot! and produce alot of waste. They also need clean water, any reefkeeper will tell you inverts are harder to keep than fish.
They should get foods from this list a few times a week to stay healthy

Also snails are pretty tasty to many fish, and theyll peck at them tring to get a mouthful stressing them out.

aicidic water slowly dissolves or eats away at their shells! Also, it seems my ray likes to suck them out of their shells!

Might want to check with your water district for the copper levels in your municipal water. Inverts can't tolerate more than a trace of copper.

I don't think that I'd have any copper or other trace elements in the aged water because I use nov-aqua, and Amquel plus to condition the water with every change, but I will check with that. Thanks:)
