This is such a bummer. I went on a camping trip over the weekend and when I got back I heard the temp where I lived reached over 100 deg. This worried me because I live in a upstairs appartment with bad insolation so in the summer it gets extremely hot and very cold in the winter. Although, I've no matter how hot it is I've never had my tanks temps go over high 80's. Well I walk in and my temp is over 100 degs in the tank and allllll my africans are dead. I had a wide assortment of Africans about 27 in my 125 gal and the only fish to live was a jewel fish. Oh well got to just suck it up and move onto something else. After I large wc I was thinking of doing a species tank. I liked the peacocks but found the mbunas to be more fun to watch as the dipped in and out of the 250 lbs of lace rock. So I was thinking of a demosoni (sp) and yellow lab tank. Any other suggestions. Or what species tanks to you like and why? Thanks guy n gals.

yellow labs are wicked cool i wana pick some up from my lfs but they are still under an inch and that would be lunch for my fish but peacocks would look wicked cool to i got about 10 of them in my 55 4 adults and the rest babys but they are wicked cool looking as well and they are one of my favoritte fish in my tank

I'm no expert on peacocks, but don't they get pretty large? 4 large ones in a 55g sounds pretty cramped, much less 10 total! Or do the different variations have different sizes as well?

Thats blow but then again thats one tough jewel! Bet theres no ick in that tank.

Yea it definitely sux, you know how it is, all the hard work and taking care of them, to have them go on some dumb ****. ha yea he is a tuff little fish I actually found my other jewel alive also under some rocks when I emptied the tank to get it ready for the next mission. So what do you guys think, should I go with the dem and lab tank? or a different (african) species tank?

They reach about five to six inches and as is the case with many Africans you want to have more to keep the aggression down. I've kept as many as six in a 55 and that was with some other smaller cichlids.

That sucks...I hate having one fish die, I couldn't imagine a tankfull. The labs and demasoni sound like a nice tank setup. Personally, I really like some of the larger africans like n. livingstonii, but I don't know much about them :p.

I think you are thinking of peacock bass... african peacocks/aulonocara are a lot smaller, similar to the Mbuna type africans.

sorry to hear your loss

Yea it definitely sux, but part of the game, just been optomistic about it and use this situation and start something different. So I was always interested in lake tanganyika cichlids and was only familar with only a few but after doing more reaseach I decided this is definitely the way I want to go. A few online dealers I've seen have alot of tangs in stock but to start it off I might just swing by my lfs today after work and pick up a few Julidochromis's b.c. thats the extent of there tang collection.
