I'm working on these right now. I have a female texas and a male dempsey. The female just grew a ton and is clearly egged up. The two seem to get along really well, so I hope they will spawn once alone. I think tomorrow I'll put my Oscar in the pond and the tex and dempsey into his 75g with a ton of decor. *cross your fingers*

Damn my man you like 3 months ahead of me. How you sex your Cyanoguttatus. By a chance are you from the south? Like real south. Anyways I would sure like to see your sucess? what I did to my cichlid to make my fish breed is black worms and a 40 percent water change.

usually the two main signs of telling the difference between a male or female texas

1. males tend to have a kok that starts to grow at about 3 to 5 inches, but also females can grow a kok and is usually not noticeable

2. your females will keep their spot on tail and on their side longer while males lose them faster one of my males i have had one in the past lost his before growing longer than 3 inches

Females have a blotch on the dorsal fin.

I'm in the soggy Northwest, actually.

Yes, worms are in the picture! :)

the blotches are mid depth and mid length on the body on the lateral line and on caudal fin not the dorsal if thats what you meant

a lot of sources including places like pets mart also say oscars only get 12 inches long but can reach 16 inches long a lot of sources will say the same thing with just being reworded i would suggest finding pics of dimorphic species if you want photographic evidence to support any fish profile's statements before letting them convince you that their telling the truth thats what i do so when im looking at one of the LFSs i don't get ripped off or sound like im an idiot when im ordering fish or shopping for fish, ect.

Yeah, I'm not entirely convinced of anything I think I know anymore. Internet info is mostly cut-and-paste - and personal experience is limited to the populations of fish that a given person has actually encountered. What's true about water in Ohio isn't going to be true in Idaho.

Nevertheless, my girl is egged up and has the white mask for spawning. I have a lot of fish juggling and water changes to do today! I'd better get on it!!!

wild caught or a friends pond? dude id love to drive down south with a live tank and collect some of my own my female texas that's with my male dovii is only 6 inches and is growing a lot slower than my dovii it took a month and a half for the dovii to catch up and grow bigger than my female texas i even had a small male texas that i bought after the female and he also grew faster and bigger but that SOB was mean at 3 inches he would pick fights with an 8 inch managuense and get away with out a scratch he also took out a smaller jag not much bigger than him and a female convict
