That is a juvenile banded sunfish. I caught some just like, was curious, and took a few home. Spine counts and other stuff later, banded sunfish. Not to be confused with the blackbanded sunfish.
Yup. I just happen to have seen some exactly like that, and after the whole scientific identification and whatnot was suprised to find that they were banded sunfish. They could also be bluespotted sunfish, and that would be quite a find.
Again, green sunfish. Body shape, mouth size, fin size, no vertical eye bar, and a quick count of anal fin spines will tell you that is is not a banded sunfish (or any Enneacanthus sp) and is indeed a green sunfish. And as deepbluesea mentioned, bandeds don't live in Ohio, but inhabit Atlantic Slope drainages near the coast.
thank you all for the replies. i have the devider up in my 75 to try to get some size to him so the other fishies dont eat him. plus i just purchased a fx5 im sure theyll all like that.
