I.D these sevs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Afraid I've got you all here boys. :D

That there is 1 Male (back in the top photo, and in the 2nd) and 1 Female (front of the 1st photo) ;)

Worms on the head and cheeks (although, a very faint colour, possibly down to photo) trailing dorsal fin.

Hero Efasciatus if your looking for the latin names. Not to be confused with True Hero Severus.

Find it hard to believe your having problems getting sevs in Portsmouth. Some really nice (and rare) specimens poking around up north ;)

Best of luck with them.

Watch for aggro from your male. looks like he's had a few digs at your female in the past.

Cheers

Disagree Craggy. Females can have both feint worms and extended dorsal fins. My old female had her anal fin extend past the end of her caudal fin by about 2cm, and also had slight worming on the gillplate ;)

lol thats the one i thought was a male. i said to the bloke, does he find them aggresive? and he said no not at all. but the only other fish in my tank were a delhezi, venustus and flowerhorn. the venustus and FH are always really bolshy and today i came down to find them hiding in the corner lol then finally my lil girl (FH) cam eout and over to me looking a bit sorry for herself lol think he may have put them in their place.

the female does have that but the other one is very prominent, but does their worming fade with stress, obviously iv only had them not evenm 24hours yet

Bloody Heck Japes :)

Kept her quite. Never seen anything like her before. Wild caught? If so, you know the location?

Few little worms, but not as many as on Chloes'. Come on lads, you've got to give me this one ;)

Have a good gander at the 1st pick. you can see the faint lines across the fore head, exactly the same as my big boy.

I personally don't advocate vent shots out of water (too stressful for all parties) so i'd avoid it if your not to fussed.

In all honesty, sevs are such crap parents, it wont make a difference if their both male or female ;)

Just enjoy your fish, and see how they develop over time.

Nice looking pair... If only they were green ;)

lol i just tried takin some more pics but he went in to the corner. i think 'his' faint lines will come out a bit more in a couple of days. they r both a bit scared at the moment. but il harrass with the camera a bit more 2mo if u wana hang around for it

I'm sticking with two females. Stressed or not I've never seen a male with facial markings even close to that feint. It's possible that it's due to movement stress and being scared in it's new surroundings, but the body is a fairly solid yellow colour, and not the pale cream/almost white colour that I would expect for the facial markings to be so dim.

Gold Males (not that Super-Red rubbish, the standard Gold Aquarium strain) are usually a vibrant mix of red and yellow, with more than just facial markings indicating their sex. It may be different due to how these fish are selectively bred, but all the strains I've encountered have males with spots all around the head region, and then then small red spot patterning on the body scales.

Give it a few days perhaps, maybe a shot while they're feeding.

Edit: I didn't realise you could zoom in on the photos. Body wise it's looks very male-like, however dominant Females can also look very similiar to this in my experience. I wouldn't be overly surprised if that is a male though.

As for my Severum, she was just a very carefully picked green strain from a local aquarium. Unfortunately I had to sell her as she was giving my male all sorts of grief.

Super-Red rubbish

Hole-in-One!

I do agree with Japes by the way ;) Every Male i've seen have had bolder markings... just getting a good feeling about this one.

As we know with Sevs, there are so many variants.

Time will tell.

Who's taking bets on this one then?

Best of luck with your fish.

The second pic and the one that could be male looks too like my old female. But give it time we should all know in time ;P heh
