The scombs are usually the least valuable of the group. Here, they rarely cost more than thirty bucks each, and thats for three inchers.Probably due in part to their reputation for dropping dead at a certain size.

+1 to what Krich said usually when I see them for sale they are between 3 and 6 inches and depending on store or vendor there is usually a price tag on them from 30 to 65 for the most part but for people that know payara they tend to shy away from scomb due to the problems that occur with them and the biggest problem is them randomly dying after about a year if you want payara I suggest you go for Tats and armatus they are a little more money but they don't have problems like scomb so I feel it's worth it however all payara can be sensitive so water quality , current, diet, and tank size play a big roll with these fish and in my opinion these fish are not for beginners I'd say at minimum they should be in atleast a 180 with a nice current.. As far as diet getting them off live food can be important for their nutrition and health .. Best foods would be frozen food, fish fillets, pellet and carni sticks.. It can be difficult breaking young payara off live food but if your an experienced hobbiest you should be able to do it.. As far as filtration goes I always like having 2 to 3 time filtration on my tanks that's just me in my opinion you can never have to much filtration but to get back on track have good filtration I usually do a water change every 2 day but you should atleast have a water change 1 time weekly and if you do it only once a week I would suggest 75% I hope this helps

I like them as well as the others but they also dont grow as fast as the big two....I'd love to have another but it would never grow big enough to live with my armatus.

Not the best picture in the world, but it does show the difference in a tat and scomb fairly well.

What do you consider long term? If you keep your water clean, there's no reason you can't have that fish for two more years at least. :/

Yeah if you can sell him and like payara look around for some tats and some armatus they are more expensive but you'll have the fish you like and they will be long term GL
