In my area, small Armatus is impossible to get except 18"+ (with massive price) while 7"-10" GATF is easy to come by if you contact the right seller. Many decent aquariums have GATF in stock here while Armatus is nowhere to be seen for a year now. (Only Tatauia)

So Armatus easier to get in US? Grrr... I'm quiet jealous of you guys.

if it is a fish from the amazon why is it an AFRICAN tiger fish?

It's not from the Amazon, that was a mislable from whoever put the pictures on that site. It is from Africa. Those teeth are going to give me nightmares..... Would love to own one now, but that would require a really large tank for just one fish!

Besides the really big tank, I think you'd also need a really long pair of feeding tongs, not to mention a spare arm, just in case.

'I'll put you in with the Goliath' might work as a threat when the kids are misbehaving tho....... now there's a plan!

No tongs would be needed, just the appropriate sized food for the bigger fish.In my opinion the Armatus grows faster and gets a menacing look sooner than the African Tigers but they are both awesome fish to have.

I don't think by any means that it would be a good idea to keep one of these fish in captivity.. there was a show on Discovery not that long ago, and they were described as the meanest, strongest...ect freshwater fish.. it was found in the Congo river and it basically looked liked the ocean on a bad weather day except it had brown water..soo im assuming thay need major major current...more than i think a tank could ever supply....imo
:grinno:
