I.D. This Yellow/orange fish...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
May also just be a Lions Cove "yellow" lab. apparently in the wild the yellow is not so common, its just more domininate in the hobby because of line breeding. There are many naturally occuring yellow-white / white Labs in the wild. Good example of how line breeding really can produce a more desirable fish.

Karsa - not too sure where you heard that, but it's not exactly true. Yellow labs come from three locations in lake Malawi, Lion's Cove, and Kakusa, and Mbowe Island. At these locations ALL of the Labidochromis caeruleus are yellow - from what I've seen, linebreeding hasn't done anything to change this colour in any way. White Labidochromis do occur near Lion's Cove (a few miles south), but at Lion's Cove itself (and for a couple miles North) all the Lab's are yellow.

Any 'yellow labs' without the black in the fins are cross-bred with something else. I'm not exactly sure what, but as a guess I'd say either Ps. saulosi or Met. estherae (red zebra).

exactly, I have heard of wilds with the white bellies... and some not great coloring of black in the fins, but must have black!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From what i can tell it looks like a very pretty hybrid.. but we should not jump to the total conclusion with only a few pics:) Not all yellow labs have black fins..more pics..
