It looks alot like what we call in west coast saltwater a queenfish or a tomcod. Queenfish are a member ofthe croaker family. Seeingas how you caught it in a lake I'm stumped though.

Was it a completely fresh water lake?

i did some searching on fish in IL it turns out its a Freshwater Drum

does anyone know if they r good eating or no?

Aplodinotus grunniens?

yep, also known as croaker. they're alright. the people that fish the river here in kentucky consider them trash fish. i've seen them a bit in the fish markets up in new york though.

drum! , they are a pain in the ---! i hate drum, they steal all your bait. The folks at sardis and enid lakes in MS just throw them up on the bank like gars bc they are such a problem

has anyone eatin any drum b4?
idk i might take one home and toss it on the grill and see how it tastes cuz i was reading on this one website that they are not that bad tasting but i will find out

They aren't bad tasting, but they are VERY bony. Yes, that's a FW Drum
