There is little data available on these rays, but if the ray that David posted is P. marinae, it may be the maximum size that makes them desirable. Check out the largest recorded specimen in the link third down in my last post. Only a few specimens were collected, so it isn't certain how large these rays can get, but perhaps the black base coloration and a potential small maximum size makes them desirable for breeding and hybridization.

Either way, they are beautiful rays!
 
They are interesting to say the least.
 
I remember seeing someone on here with a ray that had the same type pattern, but with a dark base and a clay colored pattern. I don't remember what it was labeled.
