Just venting and saying out loud how much I despise "monster fish keeping". I hate that it seems to be A Thing / An Identity, and if I see another youtube video of a bare 90 gallon stuffed with arowanas and oscars and peacock bass all chowing down on live feeder mice, I may have to drown myself in the shower.

I recently "rescued" a two-foot common pleco (meaning I found it in a 55 gallon when shopping for used aquarium supplies and was too stupid to say "no" when the owner begged me to take it). And I hate that now every time I search for information on 300 gallon tanks, filtration systems to match, and related topics, I end up on forums with these "monster fish keepers" and their bloated arowanas.

Why the hell would anyone actively seek out a fish that gets three feet long? What on earth is fun about trying to keep a zoo exhibit happy and healthy in your home? Why do stores even sell these things?

That is all. My apologies.

This is copy-pasted word for word from a Reddit post. The bots are getting smarter, eh?

But as far as I can tell, the expectation for this forum is that, at the moment of purchasing a fish, one must have the space, equipment and experience to provide for that fish for the entirety of its natural life. No one is eager to sugarcoat things for people who fail to fulfill this basic task. And if you do something really egregious, like buying a redtail cat for 20g and dismissing concerns about it with "I'll get a bigger tank when it grows", a local urban legend says that a certain man in Panama may go on a "field trip" to "collect" you, if you catch my meaning.

(I'd watch that John Wick spinoff. Everyone in that setting is apparently an assassin, so why not fishkeepers too?)

I get what you're saying, I see red tail catfish, piraiba, and alligator gar for sale all the time here and it always makes me wonder what sort of people can keep these fish once they get large. But for those of us that can house a 2ft fish comfortably, there is nothing wrong with having such a hobby. 2ft is not that much anyways, personally I don't think having an 8ft tank is a big deal, so there are plenty of 2ft fish I can keep if I want to. I wonder what you're keeping the 2ft pleco in now?

At least redtails are good for eating right? Even if someone cant keep it Forever they could put it on a plate and problem solved, a lot of other monsterfish tho might not be as easy to "get rid of"

Yes bots are getting smarter and smarter, soon nobody will want to be on the internet anymore due to not knowing whats real anymore, i know my pc is up for sale since gaming went to **** just like YouTube.. now if this AI slop will continue just long enough it might convince me to throw away the Android and just get a Nokia 3310 or something similar.
