there's an eel called a rice field eel or something. or noodle eel. something strange. get to about 4 feet long. I'm sure someone will know what I'm rambling on about!

It looks like a ghost ribbon eel, pseudechidna brummeri, although these are saltwater only. The picture makes it really hard to tell.
Is it possible that the anal fin is present and is fused with the dorsal and caudal to form one contiguous fin? Or is it just not present at all?
How far does the jaw run? back of the eye, middle of the eye etc...
Does the bottom jaw extend beyond the upper? Or vise versa?

Wow!! How did I miss this thread? Very cool spaghetti eel (Moringua raitaborua). Not a cave dweller. These eels prefer tunneling in soft fine sand. They feed on small inverts and will appreciate all the bloodworms you can offer them. More active from dusk to dawn. But, will run the tank during the day if stressed from not finding a suitable substrate to tunnel into.
Question...was the eel pink when you first saw it? And, does the lfs know where it comes from? The asian M. raitaboura finds its way into the pet trade regularly. However, a rarer species, from Java, is Moringua javanica which can grow to nearly 4ft. The asian M. raitaboura reaches a hair over 17".
The smaller eel can be maintained in a light brackish setup. The Java species requires conditions near or at full marine when mature.
*NOTE*- of course, all this is guessing from the pics provided.

Unfortunately one of my NEW bowfins grabbed the tail tip of the eel, and this was enough to stress out the eel and he never recovered. WIll miss the little guy. Shame. He was eating flakes, too...
