I find it utterly stupid when people buy fish that will severly outgrow your tank. I understand that you do probably have the right idea of eventually getting a larger tank, but if you don't have the money to do it right now what makes you think that you will in a couple of months. I see a lot of this working in an LFS in a collegetown. I recently had a guy with two Pacu and two Oscar that could not figure out why his water was cloudy oh the tank size you say 30 GAL!!! each of these fish he said was at least six inches!!! ABSOLUTE MORON!!! well what do you think that I should do? take your pacu back to Wal Mart and tell them that they do not max out at 10" but more like 24" I have made several trips to tell them this but do not seem concerned about changing it probably sell better when they only get 10" and they are never healthy enough to get much larger than that anyway it is wal mart for gods sake... I understand why some LFS are not more critical about this becuase hey they have to come back and get a bigger tank right? wrong! they will not they will let their oscar outgrow and outgrow their 10-20 gal tank probably the same people who won't eat veal because it is cruel right ha  !!! It absolutely pisses me off I keep seeing RTC updates of people who definitely know how big these fish get and some of you do have a pond or absolute monster tank that will be fine but I also saw one that says unfortunately this is going to be my last rtc update... why is this you want to be cool and fit in get a rtc and then maybe someday you will build a pond in your parents backyard for him it is absolutely rediculous if you don't have the money to get the tank you need right now don't get a fish that will suffer as a result of your greed and impatience.......

Currently I am able to house all the fish I have...lol..I have some pbass at the moment...but they are only 4" max....so i have plenty of time for them. I am plannin on moving them to the 300gal onces they out grow their grow out tankz. If I don't have a larger tank by the time they get to big for that, then there are gonna be 4 large Orinocensis for sale...;). I ALSO don't sell my fish unless I know that who I am sellin them to can PROPERLY house them and does it right. I generally try not to buy fish that get to big for me to house though. Right now my issue is having enough tankz for them...lol. I have to figure out how I'm gonna do my pikes....i have the tankz....its just gettin the tank mates right....I wanna keep several pairs of pikes together....but for that I am gonna need a large tank...and the largest one i have is a 300gal....which will be pushin it. I don't buy large fish though, unless I know I can house them. so I DO have time to get larger tankz and stuff going. I don't get fish unless i know that i can house them for life...or have an option for what to do with them once they get to large for me. I am tempted to get an aramapia just for the fact that I can say that I owned one. But if i ever do that I am gonna make sure that the Omaha Henry Dorly Zoo in Omaha will take it once it gets to large for me. They already have an exhibit with several aramapia in a huge indoor tropical setup...so i know i could do it.

I kept several types of fish that I knew would out grow the tanks I had and never planned on getting bigger tanks for them, heheh, at the time I knew a couple people who leased ot large stocked tanks and they were always happy to buy my oversized fish.

and if all else fails, you can eat them and make a thread on the forums critiquing the quality of the flesh.

i definitely learned something from guppy and cmayhem.

Should be a whole list of outlawed fish..

RTC, Airapimas, Arowanas, Pangasius, Shovelnose, Pacus, etc etc..

I'm with you. Unless I can properly house the fish I want right now, i wont get him. I really wanted some caquetaia umbries but I know I wouldn't have any room for these guys once they get big. Hopefully when I get another 300 though :D
