Why do people have such a problem with pikes. I see people say that they hate pikes and I really can't see what there is to hate. Does anyone have any idea why???

Not sure why some people dislike them. This is the 1st pike I've had and I love it. Very cool fish. Wish I had room for another.

Are you serious. I have not heard anyone say they hate pikes, many just don't keep them, they are slightly harder to keep then some cichlids because of their very predatory nature and being suseptable to HITH. Basically, if you keep the water quality up and break them of their live food habit, they are easy to keep, very interesting and really good looking.

Some people don't like them cuz they do have the tendencies to hide often if they aren't comfortable, the fact that they can be aggressive and beat the crap outa your other fish, and get large. I think most of those are pretty easy to get around though. They have great personalities, full of color, and are a blast to own. Who ever doesn't keep them should give them a try, at least once. If they don't they are missing out. Of course, pikes aren't for everyone, some people just can't handle it...lol.

For a second I was going to link all the posts that I have read the statement "I hate pikes" or "I hate those fish" but Im on the way to bed and that would be alot of work at the moment. Yes seriously that thought didnt just come out of the air I have heard it alot and I cant figure it because alot of people keep aggressive fish and pikes are not at the top of my list of super aggressive.

Its just personally they are high on my list of favs so I dont understand the distaste for them from others. I was just wondering if anyone knew why.

hahahaha, sorry, when I said "Are you serious?" It was more of a rhetorical question, more in disbelief because, as you, I too love pikes and don't see why people wouldn't like these guys. There is a pike for everyone. The colors on a lot of the Lugabris species are amazing as well and the Sax species look great and give people the opportunity to own a pike even in a tank that is not over 100 gallons. Shoot, you can keep dwarfs in a 40, or even a 29 long is you wanted too.

Those people are just ignorant (dread). I just wish that I could keep more than 1 to a tank.

I kid about it usually(hating pikes) but IMO it's because of what PP said. They hide alot and worse to me they beat the crap out of everything within a 2 mile radius and for those of us that buy them to keep in a large community it doesn't work in our favor.

I don't really hate any fish.. Just pikes seem to stress people out with their relentless attitude.. :) In tank with the fish solo that can be a great quality but for communitys not so much.

But all in all I think some of them are very cool and the red atapabo(sp?) are

I think Rally's kids about it to, as well as some others..

I think it has to do with the shape. Pikes are tubular, cigar shaped while most large popular Cichlids are rounded, some with nuchal humps. I like Pikes but prefer fish large fish with nuchal humps over the slender cichlids as do alot of my friends. I don't think i've ever heard anyone say they don't like pikes though, i think you're exaggerating that. Also most Pikes you find in the local fish stores are the more bland colored ones. You have to go straight to the source if you want a good Pike and most fish stores just don't have that good of a selection to choose from so most will pass on them.

He's not exaggerating. I've said that I hate pikes on several occasions:) While I might not literally hate them, I honestly don't like them.

at all.

As for why.........
