when i woke up today i couldnt find one of my jd's, after about 15 min of looking i realized he jumped out in the middle of the night, this is the second fish of mine to jump out. i feel really bad now cuz my other jd is stressing out really hardcore, he misses his buddy. my lfs still has a few more of the jd/texas hybrid so i think im gonna pick up one or two more tomo, there priced right to, only 3.99

i always have my open spots covered, but i was rearranging the tank and i fliped the background cover around last night, i just forgot to cover everything back up. my water is fine, im always checking it and adjusting if i have to. ive had the tank setup for two months now, the first four weeks i had a wolf fish but took it back and got the hybrids.

You said you have had 2 fish jump out at different times. The only way a fish gets out of a tank is through an uncovered opening so that being said cover your tank.

I lost a Blk aro that way. I never thought he could jump out of that small hole in the back, but he did. It's a royal pain in the _ _ _!

Apart from not having a cover, fish may jump due to unwanted stresses, bullying, wrong temps and bad water quality. They may also choose to hate life in a box all of a sudden and figure its best if they died now.

What size is the tank? What kind of filtration? What, exactly, makes you think your water is "fine"? You've had your tank for 2 months... the first month with 1 wolf fish (if I read correctly) and then 3? jds (maybe more) for another 4 weeks. Is the cycle thru? If I were a betting man (and I'm not), I'd bet that your water parameters are no bueno.

I know it's hard to comprehend with our human brains, but fish does not "miss" another fish. Nor would a fish be "stressed out" by "missing" another fish.

With that said, if your fish is stressed out hardcore, then you should probably check your water. Get yourself a good testing kit.
