I finally got one!

I finally got a florida gar today. I have been wanting one for a while and found a 12" that is healthy. Im so excited. I will get pictures a little later.

congratulations! always good to have another gar keeper on the forum...the excitement around getting a new fish is contagious, but when it's your first gar, it's even moreso. looking forward to pics--

Thanks. It isn't my first one though. I had two alligator gar for a while that got to 3 foot in my 700 gallon. I gave them to a cabelas near me to put into their 35,000 gallon aquarium.

Here is some pics of him. I had to put him into my 55 gallon turtle tank right now. I couldn't put him into the 700 because I don't have a top and I am almost positive he will jump out, especially with all the fish checking him out. I couldn't put him into the 300 because he would end up eating my juvie peacock bass and id sharks. And I couldn't put him into the 125 gallon with my jardini arowana, Im sure y'all know how that would end. I am going to build a top for the 700 so he can go in there pretty soon though.

Thanks. I definitely enjoyed my gators when i had them but now I have a gar that wont devour everything in its tank. I hope he grows quickly.

He will. Despite what is commonly posted, I find them to grow rapidly. He will look good in your 700 eventually.
