Sharing is caring! found this spot over the weekend, its right off the 160, in between the 12 and the 4. Tons of driftwood, some nice pieces in all shapes and sizes. I filled up my trunk and have it soaking as we speak. only thing is most of the wood has dried out and needs to be soaked for a while until it sinks. GO GET SOME! :)

Nice!

Sweet find...

Let us know how long it takes to sink! - lol

I've had mixed results from "driftwood" collected at freshwater sites...

But best wishes to you on it working out!

It was very cool of you to share the find with everyone else

that could take from 1 second to 1 decade! hahahaha! it's still a good find compared to us here in the philippines where what we get from the rivers are only "drift bamboos"

yeah this will prob take a long time to sink! i will probably end up weighting it down with rocks since im not that patient :)

Soaking in saltwater "cures" the wood.... whatever that means...

But the result is it decays less and is much less likely to host forms of mold, fungus, etc...

About 2/3 of the pieces I've pulled out of freshwater rivers/lakes I've had grow mold, fungus, or something...

Most of what I've found on freshwater banks were soft to the touch. Being able to push a fingernail into it is common, but being able to dent it at all with your finger tip is not something you will want in your tank. The higher temperatures will make it fall apart much faster...

On a brighter note, despite all of the pieces I've brought home, treated to some degree and then later threw out for one reason or another... I've never had a locally collected piece do anything to the tank that harmed the fish...

Nice find!I have s spot nearby where I collect free driftwood as well.Gotta keep that royal plec fed!:nilly:
