Went for a walk down by the water last night, and found this






I wear a near size twelve shoe... that's a very, very large fish. Not sure why it's in two pieces, I assume due to tidal movements beating it up against the rocks.
Good too see there are still a few big sturgeon around. Unfortunately my discovery of this individual means one less, of course, and no way to know how it died, due to the high rate of degeneration of dead animals in the ocean. I've been fishing my whole life here and have never seen one prior. A lot of people fish along the rocks where this once great beast washed up... imagine hooking one of these from the shore? You would get spooled before you'd even be able to blink.
Here's to hoping there are more around. Sturgeon are endangered worldwide due to overfishing for caviar and destruction of their marine environment and their freshwater spawning grounds.
