what the heck are you leaving it in a car for 4 hours for??? and how big is it? in the pic, it looks like a hatchling or maybe a yearling. from what i have heard, you can keep RES and baby snappers togather, as long as they are relatively the same size. i know everybody's gonna say i shouldn't, but i have 3 baby common snappers with a few other sliders and a cooter. they dont bother each other at all. except one time when one of the snappers mistook another turtles arm for food during feeding time. and i am pretty sure it is legal to own snappers in most parts of the US.

and ince you were able to find it, that tells me you live somewhere in the US, Canada, or Central America. and i doubt you live in canada or central america...

You will eventually need a big tank, and keep on trying to feed him because he might start out a little nervous.

too bad its illegal to take them

i think you can do it if you have a licesnce or something like that?

72 what the hell are the ice cubes for ?
your not putting them in the water with the turtle are you
and if our new snapping turtle just happened to find its way in your pond then the redear sliders will find there why out and in a hurry the snapper will more then likely stay put.
to keep the water colder? i thought it might work?

1,000 gal tank halfway is plenty of water for it. What kind of filtration do you have for the tank? turtles in general are probably the dirtiest things you can possibly keep in a tank... they poop a lot and stink up the water very quickly. I'd say you're golden for a few years but once it gets past 1' long the waste may overload whatever filtration you have for the tank.

Oh if you definitely need to keep it in a car for that long, I'd suggest get it a big plastic water container, ~40-50 gallons and fill it up 3/4 with cool water, make a platform and close it it partially. the water will not get too hot even in full sun.

hope to see some more pictures soon
i have two 54gallon sumps. & i have 15gallonish tank that am going to fill with water and put a platform and use coldwater that would work fine to right?

lol not at allll!!! he just took the silverside out of meh hand and then he riped him to shreds. i should of cut the silverside in half though it was pretty alot of food for a little guy like him. he didnt eat the head and the tail though he ate all the meaty middle gut-loaded part. **more pics before i leave today(to the bday)** edit: i have to take him in the car cause this is at my grandparents and dont want to leave him here. and i live in Cali(orange county, next to los angles area) btw.

LET IT GO!!! It came to your pond to cool off not be taken hostage but someone who can't/won't care for it properly!!!
taken hostage? it gets free food and no predators! and since he has a 1000 gallon tank, and the general rule with turtles is 10 gallons per inch of turtle... are you telling us this thing is going to get 8 feet long??

first off, im pretty sure the tank will be very nice for it too live in. and ice cubes are uneccesary to keep the water cool. roll the windows down and put him in the shade. he should be fine.
