taken hostage? it gets free food and no predators! and since he has a 1000 gallon tank, and the general rule with turtles is 10 gallons per inch of turtle... are you telling us this thing is going to get 8 feet long??

With this mentality we should start collecting every wild animal, just because we can. Even if we can't properly care for them...

personally, if i were that turtle, i would be happy. lots of space, free food, nothing to worry about... and he is caring for it properly... so far. jk:D

he will be a spoiled turtle. i know someone who found a new guinea snapping sideneck in their pond. he was un doubtedlt put their by someone who didn't want him anymore probably, i am in utah btw. cant wait for more pix. he shlould be fine witht the r.e.slider till he is full grown which normally takes over 7 years. hope you have fun with him. also it is awesome to watch them eat live crawfish.

im not saying collect every wild animal, but being such a small one, being protected from predators is greatly increasing chances of survival. and what animal do you know of that likes hunting for food instead of free food being given to it?

Animals don't have the mental capacity to think about that.

I'm all for proper care, but when the op starts asking about keeping it in a car and putting ice cubes in the water i would start questioning things.

i agree intirely. we should not collect every animal, but i beleive evry once in a while its ok

oh comon over half the fish in the stores started in the wild most likely. what is soo diferent about a turtle? besides he will be taking great care of him after the whold car thing. i say way to go. not enough people keep snappers. i want one just can't find one for sale or in the wild.

i have to agree there is alot more to keeping snapping turtles than a big tank and lots of food

you have to think long term because once you get tired of having one turtle in a 1000 gal tank and you release it to the wild its going to die

its best to leave it in the wild than in 10 yrs offer it a death sentence

thats just my opinion

my brother in law has 2 common snappers and he plans on leaving them to his kids in his will (hes 26) - thats what i mean by long term

i agree on them being long term. i would like to get one, and im 13, and it would probably live as long as me... all the more reasons why it is awesome people keep them.

It is illegal to keep or possess Snapping Turtles in the state of California. MFK does not condone illegal activities. Thread closed.
