It is actually not too hard, I am not a big guy and have carried a 55 gallon tank before up a flight of stairs. Just pick it up on your shoulder and you are set to go..
 
As a garbageman for 13 years I came across quite a few tanks. Once I brought home a 65 gal. plexi that I stored for awhile when my (here it comes) brother-in-law spotted it. He needed it to house his son's snake for "awhile". I asked about it acouple months ago and he said "It went with the snake."
The jerk sold it when his new wife told him to get rid of the snake.
 
I got it. I am 6'5 250lbs and can lift a 55 by myself but this had like 20lbs of sand in it. oh ya and it is only 40g but i still got it. It got danmaged when moving it but it iwas pretty brittle. It was custom made out of plastic. I reparied it with silicone and it is as good as new(dosen't look it). here are some pix i took after i repaired it. I built the intake thing my self. I also have to make an over flow box.
