I get a fish shed

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
:irked: believe the snapping turtle put a hole in his 300gal.....i guess just because others have used pond liner with success doesnt mean that includes me, there goes that liner, atleast it made it 2 years with the fish. I hope he enjoys no water for the time being.

I swear this shed thing is gonna end before it even begins ugh.

You could try to patch then shield it. btw I'm back. Going to be doing an aquaponics setup with the old test tank. Good luck with your fish shed. I have some plant/aquaponics stuff to share with you, would you like to discuss it here or in the plants thread?

hey wb!

problem is I have NO clue where this hole could be. Here or the plant thread is fine

Done. This might be kind of tedious but you can use a 5 gallon bucket to find the leak/leaks. put a section of the liner in the bucket, fill with water. Lift the section up out of the bucket as if making a large water balloon. Look to see if there is a leak. Repeat until you've tested the entire liner. Once you find the leak patch it and replace.

I see mold!

At the very bottom of the shed by the floor on the walls, perhaps the first 3" I am starting to see mold come about. Ugh I blame this all on the women, I wonder if they will switch housing:irked: Wouldnt be that big of a problem right now if I could reach it, but I would have to empty the shed..... another day in paradise

SOunds like you would benefit from a dehumidifier. And apply some baking soda to all the mold you can reach since it is fish friendly. YOu have to much heat and humidity trapped in the shed. Treat the mold and add a dehue.

I wouldnt think 50% humidity was to high, before I moved my bedroom stayed at 50-52% for 2 years and never a issue. Ill have to find some bs to use and time to research dehu's now, yes bigger the better but I think a 30+pint is a little obscene.....

Got a dehumidifier today, 30 pint. Glad to say since I have not been in there, mold hasnt moved or gotten worse at ALL. After lots of thinking I have narrowed it down to the floor not being insulated. Concrete pad with 2x4's running across with plywood on top was how it was built, makes perfect sense why mold is growing around the edges only.

My solution, a fun annoying project, would be to remove everything from the shed, remove the plywood floor and 3' up the sides and pour concrete over the existing slab and 2x4's, using the walls as a tank then form the rest and effectively making twin concrete tanks one of each side approx 4x9 for fish and 3x9 for turtle leaving me a middle isle all the way to the back. That would seal and take care of anything for the future. If I went this route for the tank the question would be forms with concrete, or concrete blocks filled in with concrete and rebar....... only consideration is how hard it would be to seal concrete block, alot faster to build with it though.

You can see the mold on the edges near the floor, nothing to crazy yet (my standards) but have no progressed any
Thats not mold on the floor in the first pic, thats dirt and everything from setting everything up when getting everything ready

Humidity after I opened the door and brought the box in

Dehu is set on high @35% I will be out back later tonight to check on it, in the end I will set the fan speed on low/med and may or may not adjust the humidity to 40% just depends on the run time. It has a constant drain setup but I am not going to use it at this time, if I can go a few days without it filling up I will leave it as is, just another excuse to go in the shed at night ;) It sure as hell is nice to have a breeze in that shed though!!!!20150306_163709 by smetters20, on Flickr

emptied the bucket 130am, went to check on it 12hrs later and it was full and off, its now on autodrain into a 5 gallon water jug. Lets see how long it takes to fill that!

that dehumidifier is a heat MONSTER, 97° in there today, left that door open for 1.5hrs to cool down to 75°, the heater is now OFF. I might not even need a heater....ever
