green terror, jaguar, firemouth, convict, and an earth eater

All of these CENTRAL american except the earth eater.

I think some more research into housing aggressive cichlids together would be beneficial to you.

Sorry to hear that happened, but alas this is the reality of keeping Neo-Tropical Cichlids. We simply can never know what each individual cichlid will do when we put them together. Especially with any of the more potentially aggressive species like Green Terror, Jack Dempsey, Midas, Red Devil, Jaguar, Texas, Flower Horn, Black Belt, and some others as well. There are a few ideas about how to minimize these incidents; adding similar size fish, mixing only as juveniles, adding at water change, rearranging decor, more cover, less cover, but in the end we never know until the moment of truth.

People need to remember that fish you buy from the pet store generally are not as strong as the fish in your tank due to feeding and water. I see where the fish in the tank are smaller than the new fish and they still kill that fish because physically they just can not fight back. That is why you really have to monitor new arrivals.

Green Terrors are native to Ecuador and Peru, thus S. American along with the Eartheater. Not Central American.

I just put my red devil/midas who is about 9" in my 125 with my 9" Jag...

My jag has always been timid of anything that I add to this tank... He hid behind a pot the day I added a bichir to the tank!

I have all bottom laying fish, so the Jag had the entire 125 to himself almost.

I have NEVER seen him so territorial in my year of having him than I did last night. Gills flared, shaking his head, scales popped out- boy was he mad!

But the Midas/RD has grown up since a baby with 3 other of his species, and although the obvious dominant one, was never aggressive with any fish.

They are now happily getting along.

I am lucky and have a more timid Jag, but I hear some Jags are straight up killers.
